It was 1975 that the first successful immediate implants were placed. This was in Tübingen. (Above - Picture by Uschi Gonser, University of Tübingen).
The second cohort of the PID-Academy visited the University of Tübingen to learn about basic sciences and practical application of implant dentistry. The University of Tübingen is located in a beautiful medieval city, where a population of 30,000 students lends a vitality to its long academic tradition.
The University of Tübingen has a very large database started by Professor Schulte providing essential data on the clinical long time behaviour of immediate implants such as tissue responses and facial development.
Several other subjects were covered.
Scintillating lectures were given about implant surfaces and the tissue response to them, which has revolutionized implant dentistry.
So if you are a Straumann user - your SLA active surface was researched here.
If you are a Dentsply user, your plus surface was researched here.
All in all the participants of cohort 2 were privileged to associate with such an esteemed establishment.
